Want to meet new people, participate in an exciting project and build your leadership skills?  Become a YU Ambassador with Timelapse TO.

ProjectYU is currently recruiting a new class of YU Ambassadors to be part of the TimelapseTO initiative.

Applications are now closed.  We had to close the application process early due to an overwhelming response to our call for Ambassadors.  Please contact acancelli@canurb.org if you have any questions.

1. What is a YU Youth Ambassador?

YU Ambassadors are young people between the ages of 18-24 who have volunteered to act representative, contributor and/or and promoter of Project YU. The next “class” of Ambassadors will be focused on helping to deliver TimelapseTO workshops in neighbourhoods across Toronto in Fall 2017.

You do not need any formal training or education in any particular subject to be a YU Ambassador.  You can be in college/university, working, or anywhere in between.

3.            What will YU Ambassadors do?

  • Prepare for, attend and help to run at least one TimelapseTO youth workshop (September 2017)
  • Write at least one blog post for www.ProjectYU.ca
  • Help to plan and execute a youth activity in one of the selected neighbourhoods.

Participation in the above activities can be easily done by someone who is currently in school or working.  Activities will be planned around school schedules and work hours where possible.

Ambassadors can stay involved with Project YU after completion of the TimelapseTO activities if they choose to do so.

2. What’s in it for you?

Becoming a YU Ambassador gives you an opportunity to participate in an exciting project, meet new like-minded people and build your leadership skills.

Other benefits of becoming a YU Ambassador include:

  • Gain experience working in a team environment and interact with urban planners and other city-building professionals
  • Improve and develop new skills in running and organizing workshops and events, working with youth, speaking in front of others, and more.
  • Participate in a Leadership Training Day and learn about how to become a leader or organizer in your community, school, etc.
  • Connect with other youth with similar interests.
  • Have fun!

5. About TimelapseTO

TimelapseTO is an initiative that invites youth across Toronto to imagine, design, and discuss the future of their neighbourhood.  Five TimelapseTO workshops will be held in neighbourhoods across the city.   At each workshop, participants will use large-scale maps and colourful, tactile materials, to imagine the growth and changes they would like to see in their neighbourhood.  The purpose of the initiative is to provide youth from diverse neighbourhoods with an opportunity to learn about neighbourhood growth, share their local knowledge and participate in important conversations about where they live.

The project is being run by Maximum City and the Canadian Urban Institute, with support of Project YU Ambassadors. Check out the video from a previous event here: https://vimeo.com/169019711

6. How to apply

Interested individuals should fill out the online application form: www.projectyu.ca/timelapsetoapply

Youth ages 18-24 with an interest in learning and working to improve their community should apply. Applications will be evaluated based on demonstrated interest in the project and its outcomes.  We are hoping that from all across Toronto will become involved.

TimelapseTo is funded by the Provincial Government.
